The Line Has To Be Drawn
I’m sure you’ve seen the ATF’s latest love letter to the gun community. If you haven’t yet, It aims to classify AR pistols that are equipped with a brace as SBRs and subject those pistols to regulation under the NFA. Using a points based worksheet, you get to play felony Yahtzee to see if your gun gets you 10 years in prison. Spoiler: You never win.
The ATF’s 71 page document estimates that there are 1.2 million braces in circulation, I’ve seen other estimates of 3-5 million, but I think there are way more than that. AR pistols have become a very popular choice for home defense, as well as bag/truck guns, and for good reason. The ballistics of a rifle round in a maneuverable and compact package make AR pistols a fantastic choice for multiple roles. The point is we could see upwards of ten million Americans declared felons based on arbitrary characteristics of guns they own.
Lets be honest, a brace is a stock, and an AR pistol is a short barreled rifle. It is a work around to a ridiculous law that was passed almost 100 years ago. We have since allowed the Overton window to shift so much that we are fighting for the legal protection of the work around, instead of fighting the actual law itself.
One question though: If braces are actually stocks, and there have been millions of SBRs in circulation for years, and crime hasn’t spiked due to these weapons in mass circulation, then why are they even illegal to begin with?
The NFA is an archaic, unconstitutional regulation that was passed by tyrannical and uneducated politicians in 1934.
They used media misinformation and fear mongering to fabricate a crisis where it seems the only solution is regulation. Sounds familiar right? It’s the same strategy they use every time they push a major gun control bill.
But it’s more than just the braces. It’s privately made firearm kits, it’s reclassification of receivers, it’s universal background checks, it’s a future head of the ATF who wants to ban “assault weapons,” It’s a media and upper class that has total disdain for gun ownership. It’s a more authoritarian government than we have ever seen in America. None of these things are just going away.
We, as gun owners, have been compromising since 1934. The criminalization of fire arms will continue until we stand up as a community and shout a collective “no” to any and all gun control. The line in the sand has to be drawn, and we have to stop giving power to the ATF. They only employ 2,653 agents, and with the 90 million+ gun owners in America, they simply cannot physically enforce these laws.
We are at a pivotal point in American history, what we do now will affect our future generations. We can either bend the knee, again, and continue to have the legal protection for our rights slowly stolen from us, or we can be done with gun control for good, and give the finger to the federal government, and stop asking for permission.
